July 28 – DC Super Fan Daily Update

The Nationals (38-67) went down swinging yesterday for the sixth outing in a row as they faced the Los Angeles Dodgers (52-52). The bright spot was the performance of the catcher, Will Nieves, as he went 2/3 on the afternoon. This was the first major league win for the winning pitcher Clayton Kershaw and the 9th loss in a row in Dodger Stadium .
After today’s travel break, the good guys will return to DC to face the Philadelphia Phillies (56-49). Philadelphia is currently in second place behind the Braves, while the Nationals are pretty well holding down last place in the NL East.
Everybody go out to Nationals Park tomorrow at 7:10 pm and give the team a boost. We’re going to need every fan in the city behind these guys if we’re to get out of this slump. “Let’s Go ‘Nats!”
News:
From: Washington Times – Bowden Clouds His Future
Jim Bowden never expected to hold theWashington Nationals‘ general manager job for four years.
When he was hired by Major League Baseballin the fall of 2004 to take over the relocating Montreal Expos, it was on an interim basis. Bowden, who had been fired by the Cincinnati Reds about 16 months earlier and was doing television work on-and-off for ESPN, figured he would do what he could to make the new ragtag Nationals as competitive as possible, then hand over the reins to a permanent GM once new ownership was named.

From – Washington Post – Diabetes Keeps Young From Resuming Play
LOS ANGELES, July 27 — Struggling to manage his diabetes, Washington Nationals first baseman Dmitri Young is not feeling well enough to travel, let alone feeling well enough to raise the possibility of playing baseball anytime soon. Nationals General Manager Jim Bowden said on Sunday that Young, placed on the disabled list last weekend after complaining of a high blood-sugar level, still was physically unable to fly to Florida and begin the team-recommended fitness program.

For my fellow Super Fans, the last open practice for the preseason is this morning at 8:30 if you can make it to Ashburn, VA.
From – Fox Sports – A New Era Begins in Washington…Again
Jim Zorn never spent a lot of time networking and he was never one of those self-promoting NFL assistants. Many would say he was naïve to simply wait for something good to happen in his career. “I always wondered how (other coaches) got on this so-called fast track to becoming NFL head coaches,” Zorn said Friday. “I got my one big chance and simply took advantage of it.”You can say that Zorn, who is very comfortable in his white T-shirt and shorts, sans ballcap, is the head coach of the Washington Redskins simply because owner Daniel Snyder and Washington’s top football executive Vinny Cerrato didn’t have any preconceived ideas of what they wanted in their next head coach.

From - The Dallas Morning News – Redskins Hail Another Aging Pass Rusher
ASHBURN, Va. – A lesson learned in San Francisco in the 1990s put Pro Bowl defensive end Jason Taylor in a Washington uniform last week.
When it comes to great pass rushers, the 49ers taught Vinny Cerrato during his tenure as director of player personnel in the 1990s, don’t look at the birth certificate. Look at the tape.
